Kaseya announced that it had become the victim of a cyberattack on July 2, over the American Independence Day weekend.
The attackers have carried out a supply chain ransomware attack by leveraging a vulnerability in Kaseya’s VSA software against multiple managed service providers (MSP) and their customers.
There is an estimate that “thousands of companies” have had their servers and workstations encrypted by this attack, more will be known on Tuesday.
Kaseya is based in Dublin, Ireland and provides IT solutions including VSA, a unified remote-monitoring and management tool for handling networks and endpoints.
The company also provides compliance systems, service desks, and a professional services automation platform.
The REvil/Sodinikibi ransomware group now demands $70 million in Bitcoin from Kaseya for their decrypt tool.
Kaseya has warned that “customers who experienced ransomware and receive a communication from the attackers should not click on any links, they may be weaponized.”
There is a good Karma Quote that comes to mind for companies that outsourced any critical infrastructure to companies like Kaseya to save a few bucks.
“Welcome to the Karma Cafe. There are no menus. You will get served what you deserve.”
